Title: Music Maker
Gender: Female
Location: Louisiana
About Me:
Sometimes centered, sometimes scattered, always passionate. I am a mother, a wife, a musician, a vocalist, a songwriter, a videographer, an office/sales manager, a photographer, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, an actress, and trying to bust through self-perceived limits.
I am blessed in many, many ways, and long to see a world where all can claim their blessings. Follow your bliss; it's the best thing one can do to help change the world. Seems like trying to follow other's bliss ( or attempting to ensure it) doesn't work as well!
What is my bliss? Being inside of the music is a large part of it. I have a blues-based band and a Gospel duo, and also sing at the local blues jam, my church, and the local Jewish temple.
The band recently released our first CD, and that was a journey filled with miracles and synchronicities. The story of the CD is on our website, www.BlueMerlot.com, and the page “The Silver Lining” tells some of the wonderful events that fell into place for us. Hopefully, over time, the blog will give me a chance to tell more - I've seen many miracles involved with our music, and it's very exciting - and amazing!
My Gospel duo also has a website - www.BandBontheRock.com. (see the page “God and Guitars” for another miracle/synchronicity story).
The band (Blue Merlot) plays at a variety of venues, from nightclubs and restaurants to parties and festivals. Our sound is uptempo, rocking, with a driving “Louisiana R & B” groove, with often-funny songwriting and new interpretations of songs recorded by other artists.
The Gospel duo (B & B on the Rock) provides music for retreats, labyrinth walks, etc. We also present an original program we call “Women at the Well.” I sometimes refer to it as “Feminist Christian with a Goddess Attitude!” The program focuses, in song, on various women in Christ's life, and also dives into the Divine Creative. Unfortunately, we haven't been able to present the program since the storms of 2005 - most of the area in which we perform has been focused on hurricane recovery, and frankly, that's taken quite a bit of my own energy as well.
Yet music is a Great Healer, and the Blue Merlot project helped us to heal.
Music is God's Breath. It is one of the most incredible expressions of Divine Creative Energy. To be inside of it is to be touching Heaven. It doesn't matter what kind of music I'm playing or writing or performing, as long as I like it.!
I am also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I've worked extensively in Oncology Social Work, and loved it. A few years ago, however, my life took a different turn when I felt it was time to take a break from that field of work and work in my family's business. It was primarily a choice based on practicality, and it enables me to focus more on music; this is a good place for me to be right now.
So, this is my “brief” introduction! I'm happy to find Zaadz…. the internet constantly amazes me; I grew up in a rural area of Louisiana (can you say….secluded??) and felt like there was no one like me. Over time, I've met others that I'm in tune with….and the internet links us all together.
Even - and especially - in our diversity, we share so much common ground.
